Although I have done yoga for 40 years, to be gently shepherded through a series of therapeutic postures by Janet Foster was a revelation. For one thing, it instantly marked the beginning of the end of nagging sciatica pain which was gone within days and has not returned; for another, our session demonstrated the value of knowledgeable guidance. As a former athlete who competed internationally in both downhill and water skiing, I have been pretty banked-up over the years. It was in my thirties that I was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis and endured bad sciatica pain for decades. Am now in my early seventies and recently had the good fortune to meet Janet Foster. We talked about my pain and reviewed the daily physical therapy; she recommended adjusting my routine by including some specific movements at the end of my usual exercises. I must admit that though always keen of staying fit and active, I felt that Yoga was a pleasant past-time mainly for women. I continued with my “old” daily routine until the pain was so severe that I decided to try the stretches she recommended. What did I have to lose beside some pain?
